The sand in Okinawa is made up of tiny stars
The
"stars" are the exoskeletons of foraminifers, a marine protozoa that
once lived on the ocean floor and has washed up, most famously on
Hoshizuna Beach in Okinawa, Japan. Some biologists suggest some of the
fossils could be as old as 550 million years old! via Scribol
