After the Eiffel Tower opened in 1889, Gustave Eiffel himself would entertain some of the greatest scientific minds in his pied-Ã -terre high above Paris. For many years, Eiffel's apartment was off limits to tourists, but you can peer into it today and see what it was like in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
