Dairy cows blew the roof off their barn


In January 2014, A barn was badly damaged after cows farted too much, fire officials in Germany said. Hesse State Police said that the dairy cows blew the roof off their barn when the methane released by the animals caused an explosion.

According to the initial investigation, a static electric charge caused the blast and fire on Monday. The roof was damaged and one cow suffered minor burns. No people were injured.

90 cows were kept in the barn and it was unclear why the methane had accumulated. Belching and flatulence releases large amounts of gas.
